You have basically described the Bell-Jar experiment used to prove the existence of Oxygen being required for combustion and that it occupies approximately 20% by volume of the atmosphere at sea level.The water level rises because the Oxygen combines with the carbon to from CO2, and hence a partial vacuum is created inside the jar to the extent of the space occupied and the pressure exerted by the oxygen.

Instead of a guest book, I had a wedding wish jar. In a large glass vase tied with a ribbon filled with pink rose petals, my guests wrote down their best wishes for my marriage. It was wonderful to read afterwards!

What kind of decor should I use for a fall color wedding with calla lilies?
I’m having the girls wear brown, I will probably use mango calla lilies and maybe orange dahlias or roses. My MOH will have a red or terracotta sash. The guys will have brown vests to match the girls and a calla lily boutinere (sp?). My fiancee will have a deep red vest. I’m thinking tall vases and candles on the tables, and some small vases on the others. What kind of flowers should I use? Would leaves look tacky?
There is an area where we dance that is surrounding in shelving (it’s in a house) and she has candles that line them but they look bare without some florals… ideas?? Pictures would be great!
I’m planning a fall wedding as well. I think birch wood is lovely in tall vases with berries and candles. You could also buy small pumpkins and see if they fit as well as fake leaves, pine-cones, and acorns. Leaves will not look tacky but I would go with ones that look like they have changed with the season to match your theme. Good Luck!

What are the best table decorating ideas for the long tables at a wedding reception?
The tables are and supplied with linens and two bowls of ivy for each table by the reception site. We are putting clear glass stones inside the container and place a support and votive candle inside the candle. We are confused about how else to decorate the tables. The wedding is next summer and our colors are black and white. We using the color pink as our accent.
One thing I'm doing it to look good is table runners. I have white tablecloths with blue table runners in the center, a largest aquarium with colored glass stones and floating candles in the center with a smaller bowl votive on both sides of it. Then there will be small bowls mints and nuts on the other sides of them.
